Hopkinson Waste Management Ltd are a leading waste management and skip hire provider, servicing Derbyshire, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. They also provide commercial tipping and supply aggregates which are processed in-house.
Hopkinson approached Agg-Pro’s recycling experts to provide a solution for a Materials Recycling Facility Waste Sorting System, capable of handling C&D and skip waste. This included a primary shredder, allowing raw materials to be shredded before entering the Waste Sorting System.
In the first stages of the project, Hopkinson was considering volume reduction across all waste streams, including wood waste, arb waste, light metals, UPVC and more.
Agg-Pro successfully demonstrated the new McCloskey Environmental ES-250 Twin Shaft Shredder on site, which performed beyond their expectations.
Over time, this project evolved as Hopkinson’s primary focus switched to investing in their infrastructure.
Recycling expert, Dean Ashton, stayed in communication with Hopkinson, especially when Natalie Hirst was promoted into the role of Managing Director.
Agg-Pro and Natalie discussed the new requirements of the project, highlighting the need for a cost-effective solution for shredding residual and third party waste for RDF contracts.
Hopkinson had trialled competitors’ machines with mixed results and invited Agg-Pro to demonstrate the McCloskey Environmental ESS-300 Shredder.
The ESS-300 is a tracked primary shredder capable of effectively and reliably shredding a wide range and type of materials. The interaction between the rotating knives on the single, hydraulically driven shaft ensures the input material is constantly moving to prevent bridging and maximising efficiency. The replaceable mesh setup allows the machine to perform to a number of different specifications of output material, with varying piece size.
The demonstration made it clear that the ESS-300 was the right machine for them, consistently producing the right specification fraction size.
This would allow Hopkinson to achieve the strongest return through its high performance, making their project viable.
Natalie and the operational team on site were delighted with both the ESS-300 and with Agg-Pro, placing the order for a new unit and retaining the demonstration machine to support their investment until the new shredder arrived.
On the recommendation of Dean Ashton, Agg-Pro’s recycling expert, Hopkinson also opted for a Fireward dual agent Fire Suppression System, mitigating the risk of fire during operation.
By ordering new, Hopkinson have taken advantage of the full 2-year or 3000-hour warranty that comes with the McCloskey Environmental ESS-300.
